Hot Takes Resolutions

Everything we’re leaving in 2022

Hey guys, welcome back to everyone’s favorite part of The Lance: Hot Takes. And Happy New Year! Today we’re in a good mood; we’re really embodying the whole “new year, new me mentality.” No more gossiping and no more stalking celebrities in 2023.

…Just kidding. What’s the fun in that? We’re back and we’re going to be discussing the celebs and trends that need to be left in 2022.

PEOPLE:

Tristan Thompson

Tristan is an NBA basketball player currently on the Sacramento Kings. But, let’s be real, we only know his name because he is Khloé Kardashian’s on-and-off beau. Rest assured, we weren’t thrilled to see Tristan in 2022 either, so y he better be out of sight in 2023. All the way back in 2019, Tristan cheated on a pregnant Khloé multiple times, and took it to the next level this August by getting another woman pregnant while actively encouraging Khloé to have another baby with him via surrogate. Rumor has it, he knew she was pregnant while they set everything up with the surrogate and kept it under wraps. That nasty sleaze. He switches girls almost as often as he switches NBA teams. This repeat offender has proved himself untrustworthy time and time again, leaving no sympathy from us as we wave him goodbye.

James Corden

The Late Late Show host James Corden has earned his way onto our list after his restaurant behavior scandal this year. Multiple reports of him having a nasty attitude towards various restaurant staff has made him more unlikable than he already was. Powerful restaurateur Keith McNally described him as, “the most abusive customer to my Balthazar servers since the restaurant opened.” Everyone knows you can tell a lot about a person based on how they treat waitstaff, and this description is not doing Corden any favors. To top it all off, we want to congratulate Corden for successfully not making us laugh once in 2022, but wish him good luck in someone else’s 2023.

Will Smith

Some of the biggest drama of the year quite literally came from the hands (no pun intended) of Will Smith. At the 2022 Oscars, Smith walked onto the stage where Chris Rock was presenting an award and slapped him across the face. It’s giving Kanye taking Taylor’s stage at the 2009 VMAs, which is cancel-worthy on its own. The cherry on top is that after the Oscars, Will said his biggest fear was being “fully canceled.” His biggest fear should be saving his marriage that is rumored to be filled with infidelity. Will is no longer the prince he used to be in our eyes—he’s being left in 2022.

Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde has let us down this year with her fake-feminist, social climber act. While directing her new movie Don’t Worry Darling, she prioritized keeping skeevy Shia LeBouf as part of the cast instead of Florence Pugh, and condescendingly referred to her as “Miss Flo” behind her back. As big Pugh fans, this one stung. To add on, we hated Olivia’s relationship with Harry Styles (ten year age gap? Ew.) and it all started with her cheating on Jason Sudeikis?! There’s honestly just nothing redeeming about this self-centered and attention seeking wannabe.

TRENDS:

Cut Out Clothing

Cut out clothing started 2022 strong with Maddy Perez from HBO Max’s Euphoria’s iconic black dress, but it all went downhill from there. Cropped shirts started showing up with holes in the most random spots, and it rarely looks good. It’s giving Regina George cut out shirt in the worst way possible. Too many holes in too many places makes for an eyesore of a shirt. This trend is every school’s dress code and every trypophobe’s worst nightmare. It must be put to sleep forever.

Aviator Nation Sets

If you want to spend $300+ for a basic, borderline tacky sweat suit, then add an aviator nation set to your birthday list. These sets are way overpriced for the most basic designs: colored strips, lightning bolts, etc. Sure, some can say the sweat suits are comfortable, but they are not our first choice, or even our tenth choice for a stylish lounge set. Our personal (and local!) top choice for this would be the matching sweatshirt and sweatpants sets from Hazel Boutique in Ramsey. Maybe if Aviator Nation sets were cheaper we would let them scrape by in the new year, but as of right now, we don’t want to see anymore of these painfully average sets.

Giving the cast of Too Hot to Handle a platform

When the first season of Too Hot to Handle (THTH) came out in 2020, it topped Netflix’s Top 10 TV Shows in the U.S. Today and quite literally rocked our world…for a whole 5 days.

We are so over this. What’s even the point of this show? Absolutely nothing is accomplished throughout the cast. The whole point of the show is to better emotional connections, but the cast fails at doing this most of the time, since they just want money and don’t want love. In the end, they get rich either way. There is absolutely no reason I should be seeing Harry Jowsey’s (season one heartbreaker) face on my TikTok For You Page six times a day. The THTH cast has taken over Instagram, TikTok, and nearly every other social media platform. Let’s make a collective decision to leave their cringeness in the villa and not on our screens.

White square nails

While this has been everyone’s go-to since their very first manicure, it’s simply time to move on. These chunky nails have been overdone for years. When we see someone with white nails, all we can think of is the 2020 VSCO girl era. And trust that no one wants to be reminded of 2020. A simple french nail or light pink look is much chicer than this white-out manicure. We are in full support of a white-painted pedicure, but when it comes to a manicure, it just isn’t cutting it in 2023.

In all seriousness, Happy New Year everyone. Let’s fill this year with positive vibes and endless amounts of pop culture drama.

XOXO,

Liv and Charlotte
