Basketball season is finally here again and NVOT’s girls’ basketball team is looking to do well this winter.

The team is aiming to “come back even stronger than last year,” senior Sophie Downey said. The team’s focus is on preparing for their first game against High Point on December 17th. “Obviously, we have the goal of a state title in mind, but that’s far down the road and we have to do a lot of work before that,” Downey said.

The girls are hoping to win their league, go far in counties, and return to the state sectional. “We want to work hard together and give great effort to play at our maximum capabilities,” said Head Coach Brian Dunn.

They only lost two seniors last year, so they have most of the team returning. Downey said, “We have most of the same people as last year with the addition of senior Alex George, who was hurt, and a lot of underclassmen who will play this year.” Some other key upperclassmen besides Downey and George who will help the team are seniors Erin Harnisch, Katie Dunn, and juniors Noelle Gonzalez, Jackie Kelly, and Megan Weis. The Knights have their eyes set on their first game at High Point and hope to start their season with a win.
