Every year, people from across the world make New Year’s resolutions to try and improve their lives. Many believe that these are a must in order to start the year off on the right foot. Though most people fail to follow through in the long term, the process can be a fun challenge.
While list-making, there are a few resolutions to steer clear of. Some of these resolutions are common mistakes and are doomed to bring little to no success and even waste time in the process. So, here are five resolutions to avoid this 2019:
Most weight loss goals. This might be the most popular New Year’s Resolution. Everyone rushes to get a gym membership and meet with a trainer only to give up about a month later. A lot of people also make improbable resolutions, like losing 50 pounds in one month. It’s definitely possible, yes, but not with two tubs of Ben & Jerry’s in your hands. #cheatday
Cutting off technology. This is another popular one. Some people who rely on the phone for EVERYTHING make their resolution to unplug from all technology and/or social media. Well, society nowadays basically revolves around technology so you would just be living out of the loop. The times are changing; don’t live in the past.
Gossiping. #newyearnewme. There’s always that person who decides that with the new year, they will change their old habits and become a better person. Nice try. We all know that you are not actually changing anything about yourself and you will continue to complain about others behind their backs. The only thing that’s actually changing is your Instagram caption.
Walking over driving. Many people choose this as their resolution because they might want to save money, get extra exercise, or help the environment. This might work for destinations that aren’t in another state. Or when it’s not below freezing point outside. Or when you’re not running 30 minutes late for work and the drive itself is one hour. If you have to go to the supermarket, you probably don’t want to spend two hours walking there and back with heavy bags dragging you down.
Waking up earlier. Along with other habits, some people realize that they waste most of the day in bed and try to fix that by waking up earlier in the new year. Okay, let’s be realistic. When you stay up until 1:30 a.m. watching James Corden on a Friday night, do you really still plan to be awake at the butt-crack of dawn on Saturday morning? Or when you’re binge-watching Stranger Things until 4:00 a.m., are you really going to wake up two hours later to ‘seize the day’? Yeah, not happening.
Everyone knows that no one keeps their resolution but if you are trying to keep it this year, try to stay away from anything on this list.
