If you are familiar with NVOT’s school spirit events such as pep rallies, Golden Knights Day, and Golden Knights Period, then you’ve likely seen the videos that are displayed at the beginning of each of these occasions. Behind the scenes—or behind the camera, rather—is junior Vasili Perides: a passionate content creator, videographer, video editor, and amateur musician.
“I enjoy different forms of storytelling and self-expression. I’m drawn to anything that lets me turn ideas or emotions into something other people can experience,” says Perides. His videomaking career has “taken different forms over time, especially filmmaking, comedy videos, and music.”

In addition to videomaking, Perides enjoys playing musical instruments as well, including the guitar, ukulele, and piano, which “[he] use[s] as a way to express things [he] can’t always put into words.” He says, “Film and video let me tell stories visually, while music is a more emotional outlet for me. Some of Perides’s biggest musical inspirations are artists AJR and BoyWithUke, who he describes as “honest and open in their work.” Perides looks up to how “they aren’t afraid to show their personality and struggles, and that transparency really motivates me.”
With Perides publishing his content across various platforms, including YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, he has experienced great feats in his online presence. After years of posting mainly short comedy skits and videos, he says, “one of my biggest accomplishments was reaching 1,000 subscribers on my YouTube channel. That milestone made my creative work feel real in a new way. Knowing I could make a difference in somebody’s day makes my time and effort worth it, and it showed me that my creativity could actually have an impact on other people.”

On the other hand, one of the challenges Perides has faced during his video making journey is burnout. “When it happens, it can make everything feel boring or overwhelming, even with things you used to love. I’ve had so many ideas that making videos started to feel stressful instead of fun, and that was difficult to deal with.” However, he says, “learning to step back, take breaks, and other interests like exploring music helped me reset and rediscover why I enjoy creating in the first place.”
For those who are exploring their own hobbies, he advises them to explore various interests in order to discover what they most enjoy. He says, “I’d encourage them to experiment and not lock themselves into just one thing right away. My creative interests have shifted between music, coding, and filmmaking, and each one taught me something new.”
