The Latest — Clubs Prepare For The Year Ahead…And A Therapy Dog Gets His Spotlight?

This Week in School — October 10 to 18

Wellness Center Therapy Dog:

On Tuesday, October 18, The Wellness Team hosted their first Therapy Dog Lunch & Learn Session in the auditorium. Participants discussed healthy relationships, breakups, and had the option of sharing their own experiences or just listening while cuddling with Thor the Therapy Dog. 

Diversity Club Holds Their First Meeting:

On Tuesday, October 18, the Diversity club held their first meeting to organize the year ahead of them. At the meeting, club officers Hanif Moula, Jennifer Kim, and Maya Soares and club advisor Holly Fox introduced themselves and laid out their goals for the club. Members participated in a Kahoot game. 

Colorguard Interest Meeting:

The winter guard had its first interest meeting on Tuesday, October 11. The winter guard performs indoors after school on Tuesdays and Fridays and competes throughout the tri-state area between February and April. 

Hand-in-Hand Event

On October 12, Hand-in-Hand, a club centered around hosting activities with students with disabilities, held its first event of the year. Members decorated spiders that were displayed along the wall near the entrance to get into the Halloween spirit. Students ate snacks, and had fun with some NVOT students. Others who weren’t decorating or participating in Halloween decorating, played games, drawed, or ate snacks. 

Volunteens First Meeting

On Thursday, October 13, Volunteens had their first meeting in the south cafe. In this meeting, volunteens were introduced to 3 events that are running right now–the V up project, cereal donations, and trunk or treat candy donations.

Model United Nations 

Model UN held its first meeting after school on Tuesday, October 18 to discuss the topic for their first roundtable. During the meeting, president Maya Soares gave a quick overview of the roundtable topic—nuclear proliferation. “We had a bunch of people sign up for the roundtable,” said Soares, “I’m hoping that we will have greater club participation this year.”
