Softball is Big North Champions
Girls win 4-2 over Bergenfield for the title
On Monday, May 15, the Golden Knights Softball team clinched the Big North National title after a 4-2 victory over Bergenfield.
For their third straight year, the team took the league championship. Sophomore Sam Weyer said, “the team chemistry on this team is very strong and we work together very well. They are constantly picking each other up and supporting one another, which makes the team very motivated to win.”
Each day, head coach Melissa Landeck pushed the girls hard in practice. Sophomore Jamie Farrington pitched a complete game against Bergenfield. Farrington averages seven strikeouts per game and currently holds a career total of 154.
Junior Ava Murphy tallied two runs while Freshman Sophia Savino added one. Junior Grayson Housley had two runs batted in, extending the lead to 4-2.
The girls season continues on Wednesday hoping to add to their 17 wins earned through the incredible season. Housley said, following Monday’s game, “we had to rise to a challenge, we only had three returning starters this season. Many teams still had their starters from last year. We worked hard on and off the field and always put the work in. All that work paid off.”
The girls will play on Wednesday at home against Immaculate Heart.
