Golf Goes Big At States
The NVOT Boys Golf Team makes an unforgettable run
On May 8th, 2023, the Golden Knights golf team won the State Sectional Title, placing high in both the team and individual categories at the State Championships.
After a few key components from last year’s 14-1 team graduated, they were still able to add another trophy to their record. The team won the team award at the North 1, Group 2 State Sectional tournament and qualified for the State Championship. Junior Jun Chun claimed Medalist Honors and won the North 1, Group 2 Individual State Sectional title, placing first out of 56 golfers in the section, qualifying him for the Individual State Championships.
The whole season led up to May 15th, when the golf team fought for a state title at Raritan Valley Country Club. Chun placed 3rd out of 127 golfers in the state, ranking him as one of the top golfers in all of New Jersey. “It felt great to win state sectionals as a team and qualify for the state finals. Although we didn’t win as a team in the finals, I’m glad I still got to experience it with the team,” said Chun. He added, “I’m glad that I was able to win in group 2 as an individual and place third overall in the state tournament individually too. I really feel that I’m improving and hope to continue working hard to become the best possible player I can be.”
Coach Thomas Quinn says he’s “very happy for the varsity boys golf team.” They “came up a little short in a couple of key matches and tournaments, but played great towards the end of the season and won the state sectional title.”
