Baseball advances through the state & county tournaments, while Softball, Boys, and Girls Lacrosse Prepare for State tournament

Baseball

The team won a league championship with a win over Bergenfield on Monday, May 15. Since then, the team defeated Glen Rock on Sunday, May 21 in the quarterfinal round of the country tournament. They face Bergen Catholic in the semifinals on Saturday, May 27. Also, they started the state tournament with a win over Tenafly at home on Monday, May 22. They’ll face off against Roxbury in the Quarterfinals on Thursday.

Boys Lacrosse

The team suffered a loss to Pequannock on Tuesday, May 16, but bounced back with a 10-3 win over Nutley on Thursday. Senior Andrew Pinkus and junior Gavin Duren led the team with 2 goals each in Thursday’s win. They take on Summit in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday, May 25.

Boys Tennis

The team lost three of its last four games to end the season. Suffering losses to Bergen Tech, Bergen Catholic, and Wayne Hills on the week, the team was able to pick up a win versus Pascack Valley. Sophomore Kiran Gurunathan, junior Noah Kim, and junior Joseph Hwang all picked up singles wins in the team’s win over Pascack Valley on Tuesday, May 16.

Girls Lacrosse

The girls suffered three straight losses to Newark Academy, DePaul, and Saddle River Day over the past week. Sophomore Annabelle Lee led the team with 8 goals throughout the week. The team looks to turn it around in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday, May 25th at West Essex.

Softball

After winning a league championship with a win over Bergenfield on Monday, May 15, the team lost the past two games to Immaculate Heart and Indian Hills. The girls season ended in a 8-3 loss to West Essex on Tuesday, May 23, in the first round of the state tournament.

Track & Field

On Friday, May 19th, and Saturday, May 20th, members of the track team competed at the Bergen County Meet of Champions. Junior Goran Saric placed first in the 400 hurdles, senior Tyler DeMarco placed first in Pole Vault, junior Abby Dennis placed first in 100 hurdles, sophomore Jamie Kim placed first in pole vault, and junior Layla Giordano placed first in shotput and discus. Also, junior Jack Small placed second for shotput and discus, while senior Kate Meeks also placed second in the 800-meter run. As a team, Old Tappan placed second in the girls 4×4 relay.
