Boys Soccer
After starting off the season 2-0, the team dropped their first game on Tuesday with a 3-1 loss in Tenafly. Later in the week, the boys got two consecutive wins to boost their record to 4-1. Thursday, they defeated Teaneck 8-0 lead by senior Kevin Contreras’ 3 goals and junior Daniel Oh’s 3 assists. Seniors Tyler Chiu, Michael Buckley, Tsubasa Tomono, and sophomores Daniel Park and Aidan Mulligan all added goals. In Saturday’s win over Ridgewood, Contreras added two more goals. The senior is up for North Jersey Player of the Week.
Cross Country
On Saturday, cross country raced at the Six Flags Wild Safari Invitational. The girls placed second thanks to Emme Fermin, Maiumi Quiros, Rowan Leddy, Claire Bailey, and Sophia Katechis in the top 5 for the Golden Knights. The boys placed ninth, highlighted by the performance of junior Nick Dong.
Field Hockey
With an 0-2 start to the season, the girls hosted Westwood on Tuesday where they were defeated 4-2 with goals by junior Gabby DuToit and senior Zoe Clarke, with both assists from junior Annie Lee. On Friday, Old Tappan fell to 0-4 with an 8-1 loss to Wayne Valley; the lone goal from senior Alexa Padilla.
Football
The boys secured a 48-0 win in the rainy weather Saturday morning in Bergenfield. Sophomore Ryan Miceli blocked two punts and recovered a fumble for a Touchdown. Senior Evan Brooks recorded two receiving touchdowns, on top of rushing touchdowns by juniors Nick Rossi, Alex Orrechio, and sophomore Devyn Radoian. Senior Michael Miceli also added in a receiving touchdown.
Girls Soccer
The girls went undefeated this week with shutout wins over Tenafly and Teaneck. In Tuesday’s win versus Tenafly sophomore Sienna Drullinsky tallied two goals, to add onto Nina Canuedo’s. In Thursday’s 5-0 win, freshman Caroline Ognibene scored two goals, while junior Jamie Farrington, sophomore Mia Colon, and senior Elli Heaney also added goals. On Saturday, the girls tied Ridgewood 2-2 with goals by Ognibene and Caunedo.
Girls Tennis
The first match of the season took place against Demarest at home on September 12. Demarest won with the score of 4-0. Maggie English, Chloe Macaluso, and Jahnavi Vaghasia were all key players in the match. The second match was September 13, OT against Pascack Valley. The match was home; OT won. Sierra Lumia, Emma Hong, Lili Setrakian, and Ashley Kim were the key players in the match against PV. Their rallies as well as volleys ultimately led them to victory. The team’s third game was September 14 against Teaneck. It was home and OT won with the score of 5-0.
Volleyball
Varsity volleyball kept a good streak of winning to kick off the season against Tenafly, Teaneck, and Ridgewood. However, Old Tappan lost to IHA in two close sets with amazing offense and defense by Senior Maya Giordano, Sophomore Eva Curko, and Senior Grayson Housley. Coach Melissa Landeck said, “the team fought hard, and I am proud of them. We will use this loss to learn from our mistakes and get better.”
