On Wednesday, November 1, the boys soccer team advanced to the sectional championship for the first time since 2017.
To get here, the team had a series of down to the wire playoff games, including the semifinals versus Dover on Wednesday. After Dover scored the tying goal with 1 minute and 30 seconds left in regular time, senior Kevin Contreras scored the game-winning goal for Old Tappan with just 10 seconds left: “It’s an incredible feeling, especially coming back from an injury where no one would think I would come back in time,” said Contreras.
Now, the team has its focus set on Garfield. Senior Goran Saric alluded to the seniors’ chemistry as the team’s motivating factor: “We’re truly playing for each other because this is going to be the last time some of us play competitive sports.
The team plays the sectional championship game at home versus Garfield Saturday, November 4.
