Don’t you just hate walking in the hallways? People walk right in the middle, taking up the most space possible while moving as slowly as humanly possible. I mean come on. You have a class to get to but you can’t because of the literal wall of human flesh in front of you. And when you do stick as far to one side as possible, people still manage to ram into you and push you farther into the wall. How does that even happen?
Well for one, the hallways are legitimately just a free for all. Everybody’s shoving their way to get through and there’s no order or organization in the slightest. And the stairwells, oh good lord do not get me started on the stairwells. If you think the hallways are bad, the stairwells are even worse. You’d think that since the stairs are much more dangerous, it would deter people from shoving other people on. But it doesn’t. People are still as aggressive and rough on the stairs as they are in the hallways. Tell me you haven’t occasionally had your shoes stepped on or bumped into a person with one misstep.
As for the lunch line, it’s just absolutely terrible. There is quite literally no room to get through, as the lunch lines take up half the hallway. It’s funny because people line up faster on the lunch line than the alarm during a lockdown or a fire drill. Non-stop congestion for the majority of the lunch period with so many people trying to walk in two different directions is a given. There’s literally only room for people to walk in one direction.
Obviously, setting hallway rules would make passing time between periods much calmer, and one of the most obvious ways would be to have everyone stick to the right of the hallway. Additionally, there has been a new lunch space installed near the North Gym where students can pick up their lunches quickly. Having three new lunch spaces to grab a lunch makes the chaos seriously more manageable. Imagine the chaos students had to go through without multiple lunch lines.
Having everyone stick to one side is kind of something that people should already be doing though, isn’t it? If not in the hallways then more so on the staircase. And when it comes to the staircase, people always tend to ignore the fact that there are TWO DOORS. Why stand in front of a door waiting for what seems like an endless line of people when you can just open another door in front of you to get through? Are people just that lazy? Yes, some of the stairwell doors are significantly smaller and thus more uncomfortable to go through, but still!
A hint of advice for lunchtime: if you want to avoid the majority of the chaos and distress during the lunch period, feel free just to hang around for a bit. Hit the media center, the gyms, the lunch room, go out to eat, or even stop by home.
In the end, even if the impatient denizens of Northern Valley Regional High do read this and try to change their ways, it definitely won’t last for long. Unfortunately, the hallways may never change, and the days of insanely slow-moving groups, people ramming into you, and never sticking to one side will continue forever.
