The People Behind the Desk: What You Don’t Know About Them
“There’s no such thing as a definition, and there’s no such thing as a memorization task. It’s about explanation and demonstration of understanding.” – Mrs. Jennifer Fernandez
Class: US History 1 Honors and CPE, US History 2 ESL
About Me: “The people [are what] I love working with, the kids, the personalities, the exchange. I like to interact with people. I mean, the history is not bad either, but it’s [the] person-to-person engagement.”
FUN FACTS:
- “[If I wasn’t a teacher] I would be an actress. If you think about it, I could say that I have a live audience five times a day. [The] tickets are free, so [I’m] trying to put on the best show of my life.”
- “In addition to throwing a party I LOVE LOVE LOVE TO DECORATE! I’m constantly decorating, trying to create new looks in my home or for my friends in their houses. I change it up for the season, and I like to create unique spaces that always have a good vibe.”
“I love to laugh and bring joy into the classroom.” – Ms. Jaclyn Hering
Class: Freshman and senior English
About Me: “I teach 9th and 12th grade English. I love the stories we read, especially the short stories!”
CAPTION: “The photo is me with my dog, Marley. I love it because it was taken outside of the Hillsdale Library, where there is a plaque in honor of my grandfather. It shows how much I love my dog, and it represents me as a teacher because I love to laugh and bring joy into the classroom. I also tell tons of Marley stories!”
FUN FACTS:
- “My favorite thing to do outside of school is either to walk my dog or go fishing with my dog, Marley. Basically, anything that involves being with my dog is great.”
- “Something no one agrees with me about is that Snickerdoodles are the best type of cookie.”
“We are in school to learn, and we learn through mistakes.” – Mrs. Lisa Leo
Class: Honors Geometry, Fundamentals of Algebra 1, Precalculus
About Me: “I love teaching freshmen and watching them form new relationships. Typically at the middle school the same students are in math class together for two years so it is nice for them to get new peers to work with.”
CAPTION: “I think this picture is a great representation of me in the NVOT community. Last year I participated in the student council pie throwing contest where students paid to throw a pie in a teacher’s face. I like my students to see me as an active participant in the community and hopefully it encourages them to get involved as well.”
FUN FACTS:
- “I grew up in Northvale and also attended NVOT.”
- “I love to go to the beach in the summer.”
