Every year, NVOT’s DECA club collaborates with the Yearbook Club to host a food and clothing drive. Both clubs are utilizing this project to highlight the importance of community work and helping those in need. The two organizations the clubs will be supporting are Rockey’s Closet and Red Hawk Pantry.
Rockey’s Closet is aimed to help students obtain professional clothing needed for job interviews, and they are in need of new or slightly used clothing, shoes, or accessories. DECA club advisor Mr. Marino said they specifically wanted to use Rockey’s Closet since it “aligns with what DECA is doing” being that they are a business club.
The other organization, Red Hawk Pantry, is an on campus food pantry collecting food, health care products, school supplies, and utensils. Marino’s purpose behind donating to these food pantries is to foster a sense of community and create an equitable society. Marino says, “But not everyone has the same opportunities we have, and we have so much extra, you know? Why can’t we share that?”
Both organizations are run out of Montclair State University, and this community service project is the perfect opportunity for students to make a difference. Donations can be accepted in room A104 and brought to Mr. Marino or Mr. Rotella by Wednesday, November 27.
