Every year, children sit down and create a list of presents they would want under the Christmas tree. When I was young, all I wanted was what everyone else had. However, there are some toys that are pure nostalgia for everyone. Here are the toys we ALL wanted for Christmas, as children.
Starting off is the Ride-On car. Kids put this massive car on their list every year. Who wouldn’t want to drive a car as a child? The four wheeled replication of a car is what excites kids of all ages. I had begged for literally 5 years to get this car… I never got it. Riding around the block in these small plastic vehicles was definitely considered “cool” and makes us long for our childhood days.
Up next is the American Girl Doll. This classy, realistic doll has attracted children of all ages. Since the 2000s, this has been something on every young child’s Christmas list. I remember opening up my first American Girl Doll on Christmas morning, my smile was as big as it could be. They were a fun toy to dress up, and each doll came with clothing and accessories for kids to express their creativity with. Getting one of these dolls was a luxury due to their high price tag, yet the toy is certainly one that brings back cherished memories.
Pokémon cards are another popular gift for kids. While some collected these cards for their aesthetic appeal, others collected these to compete with friends. Some kids would get a book with multiple cards in them, which now would ring up a great price tag, being worth up to $100. My brother, to this day, has a couple in his room. Whether you were a collector or attracted to the bright colors and lure of Pokemon cards, they made for the perfect present and remind us of our young school days.
There is no way that any little kid didn’t ask for this toy back when they were younger. When I was younger, all I dreamed of was constantly baking. With no access to a real oven, the Easy Bake Oven was my dream. This toy was designed for kids to be able to bake safely with their own miniature oven, so they could feel like they were running their own kitchen. Although it basically disappeared off the face of the earth nowadays, the hype over this used to be real, and is something we wish every kid could have experienced.
Last but not least, Legos. Now, Legos are even more popular than they were in the past, with newer editions constantly coming out. Kids find so much joy in building something for themselves, whether it be an object, a person, an animal, or anything else. Back in the day, Legos started off as building blocks for things as simple as a house, but now they can now be anything kids can dream of, from a castle to a flower bouquet. When I was little I remember playing with the little lego guys with my brother, and arguing over who gets who. The basic lego sets you used to buy as a child are still seen in stores and give you nostalgia the second you look at them.
Clearly, some Christmas presents stand the test of time and continue to fall into the hands of little kids. So many memories are attached to each of these toys, whether you were a Lego kid or someone who wanted to explore the wonders of an Easy Bake Oven, these toys all had a special meaning in our childhoods. For all of us, this list has us wishing we could go back to the 2000s and experience unwrapping one of these toys yet again.
