Holiday magic is in full swing and what other way to get into the mood than watching your favorite movies? There is no better way to feel the magic of Christmas than through film. With that being said, here are our favorite Christmas movies ranked:
- A Christmas Story
Coming in last place is, A Christmas Story. This movie was filmed in 1983, based around the fact that little Ralphie Parker wanted a Red Ryder Range 200 Shot BB Gun for Christmas. Personally, this movie really freaked me out as a kid because of the repetition of the phrase, “You’ll shoot your eye out!”, especially when Ralphie goes to the mall with his family. Because of this, there is a weird vibe in the movie that makes it a hard watch during the holiday season, placing it here on the list. -Gracie
- The Polar Express
Next, is The Polar Express. In this movie, on Christmas Eve, a magical train called the Polar Express stops outside of a boy’s house. This boy has been questioning if Santa is real or not. He eventually climbs aboard and takes off on the train, embarking on an adventure with new friends to the North Pole. When I was younger I used to watch this movie every December with my family. With that being said, this movie was a staple in my household and never fails to deliver holiday cheer. -Devyn
- Home Alone
Everyone who celebrates Christmas can agree that Home Alone deserves to have a spot in the top 3. This movie was made in 1990 and is still a classic to this day. The movie starts when 8 year old Kevin McCallister is left home alone for the holidays (and not on purpose). His family forgets him as they take their Christmas trip to Paris, leaving McCallister to fend for himself for the week. Along the way, he encounters two burglars called the “Wet Bandits,” though he is far from scared. He spends his time setting up traps trying to catch the bandits. Because of this exciting and hilarious storyline, Home Alone brings home the third place medal in our ranking. -Devyn
- Elf
Coming in second place this holiday season is… Elf, starring the one and only Will Ferrell. Elf automatically gets put into the top two HANDS DOWN. The best part about this movie is that it takes place in one of the most magical places in the world during the winter season: New York City. Buddy the elf travels from the North Pole all the way to NYC to find his biological father. Along the way, he encounters a whole new family, a love interest, and brings his Christmas cheer to New York. Going to see the decorated city of New York was a tradition for my family growing up, making Elf extra special to us. This witty, light-hearted creative film brought the idea of Elf on the Shelf to life and is by far a Christmas classic. -Gracie
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Coming in first place, my personal favorite movie of all time, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!!!!! I don’t think there will ever be a better Grinch than Jim Carey. Carey played The Grinch in this live action in 2000, and there has yet to be anyone willing to top his work. Carey transformed himself into a whole different person, or should we say frightful creature. This movie is not only hilarious, but so creative as a whole. Every person on set went through hours and hours of makeup to look like a person from Whooville which also takes the movie to a whole other level. We believe there truly is no other live action comparable to How the Grinch Stole Christmas, if you haven’t seen it already: What are you doing?! -Gracie
And that’s a wrap on our favorite Christmas Movies!! We hope you enjoyed this list and, most importantly, agree with our opinions!! Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!
