On January 4, the NVOT Varsity Wrestling Team celebrated their 600th all-time win, beating Hasbrouck Heights 48-25.
In his 18th year as head coach, Robert Ortiz said that this is “an achievement that every OT wrestler has contributed to. All the wrestlers are an important part of something that started before them and will continue after them.”
Looking back on this achievement, senior Timothy Lee expressed that, “The bond between me and my team is nothing short of a brotherhood. Every wrestler is like family to me, and when we’re in that wrestling room, it’s not just me, it’s every single one of us bleeding, sweating, and pushing to get better, not just as wrestlers, but as people.”
Senior Nick Rotolo said, “Ever since I got here my freshman year we have been able to succeed, and I’m so happy to be apart of an achievement like this”
On January 8, the team improved to 5-0 after a dominant 71-10 victory over Bergenfield. Two days later, the team beat Northern Highlands 48-22 and will look to take advantage of their momentum as they face off against Pascack Valley on Wednesday, January 15.
