Keeping it Real with Fantasy-Week 5

Helping NVOT with their fantasy football problems

The Lance is here to help you with all of your fantasy football problems, to give you tips to thrive in your league and to help you be crowned Fantasy Football Champion at the end of the season.

INJURIES/NEWS:

Tyler Eifert suffered a gruesome ankle injury in Sunday’s win against the Falcons and will miss the rest of the season.

OJ Howard suffered a sprained MCL and is expected to miss 2-4 weeks. Cameron Brate, who already has excellent chemistry with Winston, should be picked up if a tight end is needed, but they are on bye this week so if you do not have a roster spot, try waiting a week to do it.

Julian Edelman and Mark Ingram both return from their PED suspensions this week. Both should be utilized in the offense and will most likely not be eased in like other players when they are returning because they are not at risk to be re-injured. Check your waivers in case one of them was dropped for an immediate need in the first four weeks.T.Y. Hilton suffered a hamstring injury on Sunday and has been ruled out of Thursday’s game against the Patriots.

Leonard Fournette left early on Sunday after aggravating his hamstring injury. Fournette is out indefinitely, but we are not very optimistic about his chances of returning soon.

DEEP WAIVER TARGETS WEEK 5:

Andy Dalton: “The Red Rifle” has looked really good in his last few starts and is definitely among the top quarterbacks to pick up off of waivers. Andy Dalton had himself a day in another Falcons offensive shootout as he threw for 337 yards and three touchdowns to three different players sharing the wealth around well. All-pro tight-end Tyler Eifert suffered a gruesome injury after being one of Dalton’s top targets. Dalton looked to still be able to throw effectively and confidently. With 11 TDs on the year, he should be one of your top choices to pick up for Week 5.

Nyheim Hines: Starter Marlon Mack has been sidelined with a nagging hamstring injury, and second-string running back Jordan Wilkins hasn’t done much as his replacement making the Colts 29th in the league in rushing yards. On Sunday, they decided to turn to rookie Hines. Hines has done almost all of his work catching the ball out of the backfield this season and continued to do so against Houston last week with 63 yards through the air and two touchdowns and was responsible for catching the game-tying touchdown to send the Colts into overtime. With his production and involvement in the Colts offense increasing, Hines looks to be a great waiver pick-up.

John Brown: John Brown has been one of Joe Flacco’s favorite targets this season as he is coming off his season-high 17.90 points non P.P.R. against the Steelers. Brown has had a touchdown in three out of the four games that the Ravens have played in this year and has been flirting with a 100 yard game for the past two weeks, finally breaking the barrier on Sunday with 116 yards. Look for Brown to continue his production for Baltimore this upcoming Sunday against Cleveland and throughout the season and to try to pick him up if you haven’t already.

Jeff Heuerman: Jake Butt is missing time again for the Denver Broncos this year, and with the tight-end spot up for questions in the past two years for the Broncos, the position now falls into the hands of third-year man Heuerman. Heuerman may not be a well-known name among tight-ends or even backup tight ends, but he may be a name you want to consider now. Heuerman caught four passes for 57 yards, a drastic increase in production, and was surprisingly a solid target for Case Keenum when he had to throw. Heuer Men’s role in the offense is looking to increase in Week 5 and should be worth a waiver claim and maybe even a start if you are desperately looking for a tight end.

Start/Sit- We are here to help you to decide who to start and who to sit. Obviously, top-tier players like Rob Gronkowski and Antonio Brown are weekly starts. This is for those lesser tier players.

QBs-

Start- Ben Roethlisberger and Blake Bortles

Both players have great matchups this week. Roethlisberger faces the Falcons, whose defense has been decimated by injuries so far. Big Ben is also at home this week and has played considerably better in the later stages of his career at home vs on the road. Bortles faces the Chiefs, who played much better last week on defense compared to the first two weeks but we blame some of that on Case Keenum, who just struggled to make some easy passes.  Playing Bortles will not feel great but he was a top 12 quarterback the past two seasons and should have a good week against the Chiefs.

Sit- Andrew Luck and Kirk Cousins

Luck has a short week after throwing 60 passes against the Texans. He also will be without his top weapon T.Y. Hilton. Luck should struggle against the Patriots defense with his lack of weapons. Kirk Cousins had a great week against the Rams and that may make it seem like he will do great no matter the defense. Cousins had to throw the ball a lot playing against the high powered Rams offense. The Eagles are a good offense but they won’t score the number of points the Rams did.

RBs-

Start- Aaron Jones and TJ Yeldon

Aaron Jones played well since coming back from his two-game suspension. Jones should see an increase in workload to reward his quality play and Jamaal Williams has played poorly. Zeke also had a great week on the Lions defense. Leonard Fournette re-aggravated a hamstring injury so Yeldon will be the number one against the poor Chiefs defense.

Sit- Dalvin Cook and Nick Chubb

Cook is dealing with a hamstring injury and admitted he is “not 100%.” Cook should have a limited carry count like last week and is risky that he could be taken out of the game at any point. Chubb had 105 yards and two touchdowns. Which sounds great but he only had three carries, which is practically impossible for him to repeat so do not count on it happening.

WRs-

Start- Keenan Allen and Amari Cooper

Keenan Allen has been very disappointing since Week 2 as he has yet to score 7 or more non-P.P.R. fantasy points since then. However, the Raiders give up the 4th most fantasy points to wide receivers. The Chargers are at home, Allen has yet to make an impact since Week 2: Look for Allen to put his doubters aside in a very likely breakout game at home. Amari Cooper has also been a bit of a bust this year, similar to last year, but the Raiders are starting to make a move with their first win of the season in which Cooper had 128 yards and a touchdown. Cooper will be in for another great outing against a young secondary in San Diego.

Sit- Doug Baldwin and Demaryius Thomas

Doug Baldwin was coming off a sprained MCL injury in Week 1 and didn’t look that bad against Arizona with five receptions for 41 yards. However, he is still technically not in condition to take the number one wide receiver role in Seattle quite yet, his practicing capacity “should be monitored” this week according to NFL.com. Demaryius Thomas hasn’t been playing like a number one receiver even without an injury as that role has turned to teammate Emmanuel Sanders. Thomas’ numbers have continued to get worse and worse as he only had 24 yards against the Chiefs. Thomas should be left on your bench for Week 5.

TEs-

Start- Jared Cook and Vance McDonald

Cook just had his second monster game of the season. There is a high chance he should get his third this week because he plays the Chargers, who just gave up 125 yards and a touchdown to George Kittle. McDonald plays the Falcons, who have been in shootouts since week two. This should be no different with a poor Steelers’ defense. Expect this to be a high scoring game with great opportunities for McDonald.

Sit- Dallas Goedert and David Njoku

Tight End injuries have been severe this year and there are not many great options to play, but if you can, we would try avoiding these two. They have not had great volume this season and there are many other weapons on their teams so their opportunity for targets is limited. They will only have a good week if they find some way to get into the end zone.
