Keeping it Real with Fantasy- Week 7
Helping NVOT with their fantasy football problems
Le’Veon Bell has yet to return. Julio Jones has yet to score a touchdown this year. Mike McCoy still has a job with the Cardinals somehow. A head-scratching Week Seven has come upon us and we are here to dumb it down and give you the information to win your matchups this week.
News/Injuries-
Le’Veon Bell (Steelers) has yet to return to Pittsburgh as his holdout looks to continue past his projected return this week during the Steelers’ bye week.
Cooper Kupp (Rams) has a sprained MCL after the horse-collar tackle in the first half against the Broncos. The normal recovery time is about two to four weeks but O.J. Howard suffered the same injury and returned in only one week.
Devonta Freeman(Falcons) has been placed on the injured reserve but the Falcons are hopeful he can return later this season
Quincy Enunwa (Jets) will miss three to four weeks with a high ankle sprain. Jermaine Kearse will have a high target count in his absence.
Josh Allen(Bills) will miss a few weeks with a UCL injury in his throwing elbow. 35-year-old QB Derek Anderson will start in his absence after Nathan Peterman played poorly once again in replacement of Allen.
Ryan Tannehill (Dolphins) will miss this week and is unlikely to be available for Week eight with a shoulder injury meaning two more weeks of Brocktober with Brock Osweiler
Deep Waiver Targets Week 7
J. Beathard: Jimmy Garoppolo’s ACL tear has left the 49ers offense in the hands of backup quarterback C.J. Beathard, and although they haven’t been winning, Beathard has been solid in his last three starts. Beathard has put up at least 17 points in his last three starts and has thrown two touchdowns in each of those games. Also, being in a division in the NFC West in where every team struggles against the pass and he has to play those teams twice, we believe Beathard should be given a shot if your regular starter is on a bye or your not getting enough out of the QB slot.
Ito Smith: If you are a Devonta Freeman owner, we are sorry to inform you that he is on IR as of Tuesday if you didn’t know. This leaves the backfield in Atlanta to veteran Tevin Coleman and rookie Ito Smith. Coleman has been rather ineffective so far, as Smith has been getting more touches as he finally out-touched Coleman last week with 13 touches to Coleman’s 11. Furthermore, Ito Smith has found the endzone in all of his last three games. Smith should look to get more production with Freeman finally on IR and is definitely worth a waiver claim this week.
Jermaine Kearse: Everyone had high hopes for New York’s #1 receiver Quincy Enunwa last Sunday against the Colts at home coming back from injury…too bad he fumbled on the first play and left the game right after to miss the next 3-4 weeks with an ankle injury. However, with Enunwa out, Jermaine Kearse led the team in receptions (9) and nearly had his first 100-yard game in forever. Kearse and rookie quarterback Sam Darnold found a quick connection on Sunday in their win against the Colts and should be looking to take the WR1 spot in Enunwa absence. Make sure to pick up Kearse off waivers as soon as you can.
O.J. Howard: By now, most people have dropped O.J. Howard, thinking he would be out for much longer and that Cameron Brate was the guy in Tampa Bay. Well, O.J. came back early and although Brate had a touchdown in their loss against the Falcons, Howard had more receptions and more yardage. Now that Jameis Winston has taken over, the tight-end spot has become much bigger for the Buccaneers as Winston uses his tight-ends often with Howard tying for the most receptions on the team on Sunday with WR Chris Godwin. If one of your league mates somehow left Howard on the waivers, quickly go to the wire and claim him before it’s too late.
Start/Sit-
QB-
Start- Andy Dalton and Eli Manning
We know you don’t want to play them but their matchups are great this week. Also, Dalton actually has played really well this year so against an abysmal Chiefs defense. Manning plays Atlanta and with all of the turmoil in New York, he will have some extra motivation against the bad defense.
Sit- Deshaun Watson and Marcus Mariota
These are two great quarterbacks but have very difficult matchups so they both may struggle Jacksonville should bounce back from the defeat against Dallas and the Chargers have had solid pass defense this year.
RB-
Start- LeSean McCoy and Royce Freeman/Phillip Lindsay
LeSean McCoy has been downsized by injury since the start of the season, but starting him against a weak Colts defense as McCoy looks fully healthy and Chris Ivory’s role in the offense dying looks to have a lot of upside for McCoy to put up McCoy numbers. For the Denver Duo, Royce Freeman and Phillip Lindsay are going against the worst team against the rush as they give up the most points to opposing running backs. Make sure to put at least one of them in your lineup this week.
Sit- Alex Collins and Adrian Peterson
Alex Collins finally put up a solid RB2 game we have been waiting for with 17 points non P.P.R. We are now saying sit him as he only had 55 rushing yards, has relied heavily on getting into the endzone, and is going against a Saints defense that gives up the fifth fewest points to opposing RBs. On the other hand, Adrian Peterson is now going to be sharing the backfield with Chris Thompson as Thompson is back and healthy this week. With Peterson going against a team that is just behind New Orleans in points allowed to running backs in Dallas, we would keep him sidelined if you can find a better option.
WR-
Start- Jermaine Kearse and Taylor Gabriel
We said you should pick up Kearse in the waiver and he is a great start this week with Enunwa’s injury. Gabriel has had 100 yards in back to back games and Tyreek Hill’s speed was too much for New England to handle last week so Gabriel’s speed should be difficult to deal with.
Sit- Cole Beasley and Allen Robinson
Beasley had a great day in a shocking win over Jacksonville. This seems like an outlier game to us and he needs to prove more before we have confidence in playing him. We said play Gabriel but his teammates may struggle because the Patriots have historically done very well in shutting down a team’s number one weapon.
TE-
Start- C.J. Uzomah and Austin Hooper
Both players have played surprisingly well so far and have two great matchups this week. Hooper plays the Giants and Uzomah plays the Chiefs so both have the chance for great weeks.
Sit- Vernon Davis and Eric Ebron
Ebron has played great this year and because of the tight end landscape we do not advise cutting him but Buffalo had played well against tight ends so if you can play someone else while keeping Ebron on your bench we would do it. Davis caught a touchdown last week but with Jordan Reed in front of him, he does not have much value.
