Keeping it Real with Fantasy- Week 16
Helping NVOT with their fantasy football problems
This is it: Championship week. For our last article, we are here to give you our advice for your final week of Fantasy football as you go for the gold. We wish you the best in your final matchup and we thank you for keeping with us all season long on Keeping It Real With Fantasy Football. Good luck!!!!
News/Injuries-
Keenan Allen(Chargers) suffered a hip pointer on impressive catch even though it did not count. He missed the rest of the game and with Los Angeles already in the playoffs, he may miss some more time.
Cam Newton(Panthers) and Aaron Rodgers(Packers) both have dealt with nagging injuries, and since there teams are out of playoff contention, there is consideration in both organizations to rest their franchise quarterbacks.
Aaron Jones(Packers) was put on IR on Tuesday for the Packers. Jamaal Williams will take over as lead back.
Tyler Boyd(Bengals) has an MCL injury. We know it is getting old. Team out of playoffs, may rest banged up player, but it holds true for Boyd.
Nick Foles(Eagles) will start in week 16 for the Eagles with Carson Wentz dealing with a broken vertebrae.
Waiver Targets-
Elijah McGuire– Elijah McGuire is now the head of the Jets backfield again this week. Although his 42 rushing yards, getting 18 carries and 3 receptions for a total of 21 touches last game against the Texans looks really good for championship week. The Packers are up next for the Jets who don’t even come close to the running defense that Houston has, so McGuire could have a very solid day as a flex option.
Jamaal Williams– Not a favorite to start this week, but starting running back Aaron Jones looks to have a pretty serious knee injury where he will miss the rest of the season. Without Ty Montgomery in Green Bay after being traded to Baltimore earlier in the year, it means Jamaal Williams should have the backfield all to himself. When Jones left, Williams racked up 55 rushing yards and a touchdown so there is promise there if Jones is unable to go on Sunday. We think Williams can be a decent flex option if you are in desperate need of one.
Mike Williams– Williams had an absolute monster day on Thursday. The second year player had 76 yards and 2 touchdowns and a two-point conversion as well as a rushing touchdown in their thrilling victory over the Chiefs. The Chargers play the Ravens this Saturday, the #1 defense in the NFL, so it may be risky starting Williams. However, if you want to take a chance, we think the Chargers are going to look the way of Mike Williams to do well on with Keenan Allen out.
Ian Thomas– We are listing this man again because the offensive attack of the Panthers runs through 3 people: Cam Newton, Christian McCaffrey, and the tight-end. With Olsen out, the tight-end is Ian Thomas. You are definitely questioning why we are telling you to pick him up after he posted 2 receptions for 14 yards, but the Panthers play a terrible passing defense this week going against Atlanta. If Thomas is still on waivers, he will be due for a good week going up against the Falcons so if you somehow made to the championship without a good tight-end, pick up Thomas pronto.
Start/Sit-
QB
Start-Mitchell Trubisky(Bears) and Josh Allen(Bills)
Trubisky and the Bears clinched the division last week to earn a playoff berth for the first time since 2010. Chicago is still trying to get the first round bye and San Francisco is battling for the first overall pick. Chicago should roll through San Francisco to improve to 11-4. Allen and Buffalo have been out of playoff contention for a while. They still do have something to play for and can help keep New England out of the playoff. Expect Allen and Buffalo to be playing with the same passion as the teams trying to make the playoffs.
Sit- Aaron Rodgers(Packers) and Cam Newton(Panthers)
So in the news section, we said both of these players may not be playing this week. That is why we are saying that you should not lose the championship because your quarterback is out. They may have good weeks, but it is risky to play them.
RB-
Start-Chris Carson(Seahawks) and Marlon Mack(Colts)
Carson has 4 touchdowns in his last 5 games and has had over 10 points in all of those games, scoring his season high of 20.8 non-P.P.R.. The Seahawks take on the Chiefs who have the second-worst defense in the NFL, and with Carson this hot, he can definitely fill an RB2 or Flex spot. As for Mack, he is going up against the Giants who rank higher than the Chiefs as a defense but are poor against stopping the run. With their pass defense not being great either, Mack is likely have a second 100+ yard day for the Colts.
Sit-Adrian Peterson(Redskins) and Peyton Barber(Buccaneers)
Peterson has had 21 touches against the Jaguars last week, but 71 yards to show for it. Jacksonville is tough against the run, but Dallas has even better run defense than Jacksonville, and the last time Peterson played the Cowboys he got 4.4 non-P.P.R. points. We think he will have a similar poor performance. Barber on the other hand is coming off a very good game with 21 touches and with 89 yards and a touchdown. However, the Buccaneers play Tennessee who has been very good against the run, and with the constant inconsistency of the Tampa Bay offense, we think Barber should sit this week out.
WR
Start- Adam Humphries(Buccaneers) and DJ Moore(Panthers)
Humphries struggled last week along with Tampa Bay’s offense. We expect them to bounce back in a game where they can play spoilers versus Dallas. Tampa and Humphries should have some extra motivation to take a team out of the playoffs. Moore struggled with Newton not being able to throw the ball. Moore has a good matchup and we do not think that Newton will play because of his injury.
Sit- Dante Pettis(49ers) and Corey Davis(Titans)
Pettis and San Francisco has to face one of the top defenses in the league this week. Chicago has shut down Aaron Rodgers and the Rams in the past two weeks, so they should have no problem stopping the tanking 49ers. Davis has been up and down this season. Josh Norman may not be elite anymore, but he is still good and part of the solid Redskins defense. Washington and Tennessee are playing in a matchup with huge playoff implications on the line and we do not trust the Titans pass offense this week.
TE-
Start- Eric Ebron(Colts) and Mark Andrews(Ravens)
If you made it this far, you probably already have a solid tight end. Maybe you have gotten lucky by streaming tight ends though. Ebron struggled last week with only one catch, but the pro bowl tight end has the highest upside of any tight end not named Ertz or Kelce. Ebron has a great matchup and should play well. If you do need to play a poorer tight end Andrews is a good option. The rookie did not have much upside after being the second tight end taken by Baltimore in the draft. He has outplayed is counterpart Hayden Hurst though and has a good match up to surprise fantasy owners this week.
Sit- Trey Burton(Bears) and Mike Gesicki(Dolphins)
Burton caught a touchdown last week, but he is only a good play if he can surprise you and get a touchdown. Burton may surprise again this week, but we would not count on it. Gesicki has to play Jacksonville this week. He already is a low upside option and is not worth the risk against Jacksonville.
