Field hockey Season Ends with Loss to West Milford

Senior goalie Maya Vanderlinden makes 10 saves amidst overall strong defensive game

With fifteen minutes left in the second half, the West Milford field hockey team ran back to their bench in celebration after scoring the only goal of the game against the NVOT team to win last Tuesday, October 18th.

A strong defensive effort led by senior captain and goalie, Maya Vanderlinden, was not enough for the Golden Knights (1-16) to overcome West Milford (14-2-1).

“We continued to fight and made some great defensive saves,” said head coach Katie Fritz. “Maya had a great game with 10 saves and the whole defense played well as a unit,” Fritz added.

According to senior Alyssa Finkel, “Maya was very vocal on the field and made some nice saves. Also, she did very well instructing everyone on the field.”

In the future, Fritz wants the offense to “be more aggressive and capitalize on their opportunities.”

According to Fritz, the future of the NVOT field hockey team is bright. With a bunch of underclassmen, three freshmen starters, as well as six sophomores, Fritz is looking forward to working with the team during the offseason.
