Girls' basketball team continues on in state tournament

The girls’ basketball team continued their cinderella run in the state tournament on Thursday night with a win over third-seeded West Essex. NVOT, who is the 11-seed in the North 1, Group 3 bracket, won by a score of 48-37 to advance to the state sectional semifinals.

The girls were led by the three-point shooting of sophomore Jackie Kelly who knocked down four threes to score a game high of 20 points. She also added 3 assists and 2 steals to the win.

Sophomore Noelle Gonzalez and junior Sophie Downey were also big factors as Gonzalez added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals in the win while Downey had 7 points and 8 rebounds.

The Golden Knights, who have now beaten sixth-seeded Wayne Hills in addition to West Essex, and will now face second-seeded Northern Highlands on Saturday in Allendale. If the girls are able to advance, they would face the winner of Pascack Valley and Ramapo in the state sectional final.
