Well, maybe predicting Grammy winners isn’t our strong suit, but it sure is fun!
Anyways, welcome back to everyone’s favorite part of The Lance: Hot Takes. We predicted our winners for the 66th Annual Grammy Awards and let’s just say we didn’t do too great. Nonetheless, let’s recap our favorite moments, our not-so favorite moments, and our favorite outfits.
Favorite Moments:
Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs duet on “Fast Car”: This duo had us all near tears. While we might have just been expecting Combs, the Grammys always surprises us and brought one of the best moments of the night with the OG, Chapman. The glances these two were sharing… UGH. Combs even looked nervous like a little boy meeting his idol–so adorable! We’re obsessed and demand these two release their duet on all streaming platforms (please and thank you).
Miley Cyrus owning the stage: She can buy herself flowers! And she just won her first Grammy! Cyrus had everyone on their feet as she performed her hit single “Flowers” from her eighth studio album Endless Summer Vacation. It was giving powerhouse. It was giving rock star. It was giving she just left the most narcissistic relationship and feels amazing. Cyrus has finally grown into the confident woman she is, and it was so clear with this performance. Hannah Montana dreamt about this moment forever and here it is. It was truly just her and the music. Oh, and don’t forget about the iconic mic drop at the end. Tina Turner core okkkk. We’re so happy for her!!!
Taylor Swift’s new album & Grammy history: To everyone’s surprise, Swift announced her brand new album The Tortured Poets Department coming out April 19, and not her re-release of Reputation. She announced the new album after she won her 13th (<3) Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album. During her announcement/acceptance speech, she said the album has been two years in the making…break up album!!! Joe Alwyn is in for a rude awakening with this one, and we could not be more excited. Swift didn’t only announce her new album, but she also made Grammy history. Later in the night, Swift won Album Of The Year for Midnights (Liv guessed this correctly, as she should) making her the first person to ever win this award four times. She’s an icon, she’s a legend, and she is the moment.
Not-So Favorite Moments:
Jay-Z in general LOL: We get it, okay. He’s one of the rap GOATS. He’s one of the most decorated artists of his generation. He won the Global Impact Award. Okay, okay. But, someone get this guy off the stage for goodness sakes! His entire speech was so unappreciative and basically just reminded his wife, the iconic Beyoncé, that while she’s won the most Grammys, she’s never won Album of the Year. Even though Lemonade should’ve won, we agree, it’s not the time nor the place for all that. Their daughter, Blue Ivy, was standing next to Jay-Z on stage as he accepted the award, and he still decided to play the sore loser card. C’mon, do better. You just won a Grammy!
Favorite Outfits:
Dua Lipa: Dua Lipa really surprised us all with this shimmery fringe dress. The deep V-neck and open cut-outs MADE this outfit. Let’s not forget to mention how fireee her red hair looked against that silver color!!
Olivia Rodrigo: THIS DRESS. Olivia Rodrigo showed up to the Grammys in a vintage Versace dress from 1995. Rodrigo looked angelic with this long beaded dress, keeping the 2024 Grammys classy.
Taylor Swift: SHE IS THE MOMENT. But didn’t we already know that?? Taylor Swift popped OFF for the 66th Grammy nominations. Everything about her outfit is so elegant. The white corset dress along with black accessories really left all of our jaws on the floor.
Miley Cyrus: obviously saving the best for last, the one and only Miley Cyrus. Cyrus shocked the world with her 5 different outfit changes. Starting off the night with a gold metal mesh dress was the move. Some would say she’s giving James Charles Met Gala 2019, but we think she absolutely slayed. While accepting her first Grammy, Cyrus wore a black shimmery halter dress (iconic). Then while performing her Grammy winning song, “Flowers,” she changed her outfit once again. And let’s not forget about her last punk rock look of the night. The black and the fringe is just everything.
Least Favorite Outfits:
Billie Eilish: Something about Billie’s outfit threw us off this year. Don’t get us wrong, we are ALL for the Barbie bomber jacket. That is a true staple piece. But her red hair clashes with the pink jacket (personally not a fan).
Doja Cat: There honestly are no words to describe Doja Cat’s outfit for this year’s Grammys. She showed up half naked in a nude corset dress, which was definitely not the vibe. Is this even appropriate for live television?? We understand trying to make a bold statement, but this outfit was just not it for us…
Thanks for recapping with us! Don’t worry, we’ll be back next year with more awful predictions.
XOXO,
Liv and Gracie
