NVOT wrestling team celebrates their sectional championship win versus Sparta on February 8

NVOT wrestling won their first state sectional championship at Old Tappan High School on Wednesday, February 8 against Sparta by a score of 40-34. Sophomores Jack Drucker, Ryan Sullivan, Nick Rotolo, and senior Sam Bodnar all recorded pins in the championship match. On top of that, sophomore Jonathan Rotolo and Daniel Olivio added wins by technical fall while Nick Rossi and Justin Morrisey won by decision.

Sophomore N. Rotolo is confident in the sophomore class: “We will be someone to be afraid of for the next couple of years.” He believes that this year’s team bonds super well with each other saying, “We always are going to make each other work and push harder,” added Rotolo.

Coach Robert Ortiz cites the efforts of the two seniors on the roster. Despite the fact that there are only two of them, “They’ve been up to the task,” said Ortiz. “Their leadership was essential to our success this season.”

The team faces Warren Hills in the North Group Championship on Friday at Warren Hills High School.
