The fashion world at NVOT has found an experimental and creative voice in sophomore Tatiana Oddo, our March Fashion Student of the Month. Oddo’s strong sense of individuality and passion for personal expression has already made a mark on the school’s fashion scene.
Oddo’s journey into fashion began in early 2019, but she waited until high school to dive deeper into experimenting with her style. “I wanted to wait until high school to experiment with what style I liked,” she said. This patience has paid off, as she now confidently curates a look that blends elements from a variety of influences.
When it comes to fashion icons, Oddo draws inspiration from unique sources. “My biggest fashion influences would have to be Solya, my Dad, and Tomb Runner,” she said. These influences shine through in her eclectic and often dark aesthetic, which combines apocalyptic, alternative, and vintage elements into one unique style.
Oddo doesn’t limit herself to mimicking a particular person’s look; instead, she gathers inspiration from a wide range of sources. “I base my style off of things I find on the internet that inspire or catch my interest. It’s a mix of many different things into one,” she says, reflecting a sense of freedom and openness to new ideas. One of her favorite pieces to wear is her converse sneakers, which she pairs with a green thrifted sweater that has a bear print, along with a thrifted set of oversized jeans held up by a vintage belt.
Oddo’s ultimate goal with her style is to find alternatives to feeling comfortable while still being fashionable. “I want to show people that you don’t have to stick to uncomfortable and itchy clothes just to look nice. It sucks to see people fall into the same trends over and over just to find themselves in cramped clothes for the sake of fitting in,” she explains.
As for trends, Oddo has clear favorites and a few that she could do without. “My favorite fashion trend is a gradient pattern—lighter top, darker pants, dark shoes, or the opposite. I like contrasting shades and the difference it brings out, but I especially like to show how thrifted clothing can fit into a nice outfit, despite that some may say it looks ‘homeless.’” On the flip side, there’s one trend that doesn’t sit well with her. “My least favorite fashion trend is socks over leggings. I never understood why people do that. It looks off when it overlaps,” she says.
Tatiana Oddo is a sophomore to watch, with a fresh take on fashion and an eye for making unique statements throughout her four years of high school.
