Swimming:
Starting on December 22nd, the boys swimming team defeated Demarest by a score of 96-73. Similarly, the girls swimming team also defeated Demarast by a score of 111-50. Both teams currently sit at a record of 2-2 and with no matches during the winter break.
Girls Basketball:
The girls faced off against Hasbrouck Heights on December 26th and defeated them by a score of 63-34. Sophomore Alexa Canuedo recorded a team high 25 points. Later in the week, On December 28th, the Knights defeated River Dell 51-45 in the Joe Poli Classic Semifinals. Senior Sienna Drullinsky and sophomore Alexa Caunedo both recorded double digit scoring, Drulinsky with 19 points and Canuedo with 11. The team’s next game takes place on January 6th against Tenafly at 4:15 PM at home.
Winter Track:
The first meet of the season, the Spiked Shoe Holiday Festival, took place on Monday, December 22 at the Armory in Washington Heights, New York. Junior Caroline Ognibene placed second in the girls high jump. The team did not have any meets during the break, with their next meet being the Varsity League Championship at Ocean Breeze on January 7th at 4:30 PM.
Boys basketball:
The boys basketball team had three games during the holiday break. First, the Knights faced off against Passaic on December 27th and defeated them by a score of 53-44. Junior David Brennan totaled 14 points in the victory. The following day, on the 28th, the Knights defeated North Bergen 61-54 to advance to 3-1 on the year. Juniors David Brennan and Carmine Porcelli led the scoring, Brennan with 17 points and Porceli with 16 in the win. The last game of the holiday break came on December 30th, in which the Knights defeated Randolph 46-41. Junior David Brennan once again scored a team-high 23 points. The team is currently riding a three game win streak and will face off against Tenafly on January 6th at 7 PM (away).
Bowling:
The bowling team did not have a match between 12/22 and 1/5. The team’s first match into the new year will be against Westwood on January 7th at 4 PM.
Hockey:
The hockey team faced off against Paramus Catholic on January 2 and defeated them 9-1. Senior William Park recorded 4 goals in the commanding victory. The team also defeated Fairlawn and defeated them by a score of 6-5. Senior William Park recorded a hat-trick of goals in the tight victory. The team currently sits at 5-2 and will face off against Madison at home at 4 PM on January 6th.
Wrestling:
A handful of NVOT wrestlers competed in the Gary Vittorio Tournament at Parsippany Hills High School. Junior John Bilali placed first in the 190 pound bracket. Also, that same weekend, sophomore Matthew Morissey competed in the Sam Cali Tournament and placed second. As a team, the Knights defeated New Milford by a score of 49-27. Sophomore Matthew Morrissey recorded a team best 53 second pin with junior John Bilali also recording a 1:08 second pin. Later that day, the team suffered its first loss to Passaic Tech by a score of 50-21. The team’s only wins came from senior Leo Decandia, junior Jaxson Weaver, senior Matthew Kim and Matthew Morrissey. The team’s next match is against Bergenfield on January 7 (away).
