Swimming:
The boys swimming team competed against Don Bosco Prep on January 7 and were defeated by a score of 96-74. Freshman Ethan Reines placed first in the 200 free and the 100 back. Freshman Chace Kim also placed first in the 100 fly. The girls swimming team defeated Wayne Valley on January 12 by a score of 108-61. Freshman Remi Jensen placed first in the 200 free and junior Edele Maymin placed first in the 200 IM.
Girls Basketball:
The girls basketball team had three games this week. Starting on Tuesday, January 6, the girls defeated Tenafly by a score of 57-18. Senior Sienna Drullinsky led the game with 16 points. On January 8, the girls competed against Bergenfield, where they won by a score of 61-21. Sophomore Alexa Canuedo tied her season high of 25 points. On January 10, the team’s last game of the week took place against Paterson Eastside where they won 58-48, adding another win to their streak. Canuedo once again led the team with 20 points. The girls are currently riding a 6-game win streak and will be looking to continue their momentum against Dumont on January 13 at home.
Winter Track:
The winter track team competed at the Big North Championship meet on January 7. Junior Caroline Ognibene placed first in the pole-vault and first in the high jump. The 4×8 relay team of Lillian Oster, Alexandra Rodriguez Del Busto, Kelly Bae and Lauren Lumbino also placed first with a time of 11:45. For the boys, junior Prince Morrison placed first in the 400 with a time of 49.61 seconds. Senior Ben Johnson placed first in the 3200 with a time of 10:15 and first in the 1600 with a time of 4:47. Brendan McNamara placed first I’m the 800 with a time of 1:59. For the relays, the 4×4 team of Leo Etter, Aidan Nally, Brendan McNamara and Prince Morrison placed first with a time of 3:32. For the throwers, Shane Small placed first in the shot put with a 46 feet, 2.5 inch throw.
Boys Basketball:
The team began their week on January 6 and lost to Tenafly by a score of 55-43. Their last game of the week took place on January 8 where they defeated Bergenfield by a score of 63-36. Senior Issac Shrager led the game with 25 points. The boys currently sit at 6-2 and will face Dumont in an away game on Tuesday January 13.
Winter Cheer:
The Pink Ladies hosted their first Big North Cheer Competition at home, and they won against Pascack Valley. Their next competition will be the Cutter Classic on Sunday, January 18 at Fair Lawn High School.
Bowling:
The bowling team had two matches this week. Starting on January 7, they defeated Westwood by a score of 7-0. Senior Selden Kolkebeck bowled a 205.67 average in three games. Then, on Thursday January 8, the team was defeated by Passaic Tech with a final score of 7-0. Junior Geonyoung Lee led the team with a 219.33 average over 3 games. The team’s next match takes place against River Dell on January 13.
Hockey:
The NVOT hockey team had two games this week. Starting on Wednesday, January 7, the team was defeated by Madison by a score of 3-0. Sophomore Logan Mascaro recorded 19 saves in the loss. To end the week, the team faced off against Paramus Catholic yet again and defeated them by a score of 5-4. Goals came from senior Jett Geraci, senior Lucas Sands, senior William Park, sophomore Alexander Labe, and sophomore Colten Lathrop. The boys’ next game will take place against Clifton on January 14 at 4pm.
Wrestling:
The NVOT wrestling team had three matches this week. Starting on Wednesday, January 6, the team defeated Bergenfield by a score of 38-30. Pins came from juniors Jaxson Weaver, John Bilali and also senior Dylan Macaluso. On Saturday, the team suffered a 52-18 loss against Morris Hills. Later the same day, the team suffered another loss against Hasbrouck Heights by a score of 42-35. The fastest pin came from junior John Bilali of 54 seconds, while sophomores Matthew Morrissey and Joseph Lee were able to win by majority decision. The team currently sits at 3-3, and their next match will take place against Pascack Valley on Wednesday, January 14.
