The Lance’s Holiday Watchlist

The Lance’s Holiday Watchlist

A guide to the newest and most exciting Christmas movies

With the holiday season in full swing, everyone is starting to get back into the trend of watching wonderful holiday movies (but not the Hallmark movies. Definitely not the Hallmark movies). However, holiday movies have begun to get a bit repetitive and stale. It’s hard to find original holiday movies this year, but don’t worry. The Lance has been hard at work looking for new and classic holiday movies for you to enjoy this year.

Dashing Through the Snow

If you’re looking for a 2023 comedy Christmas movie, this new PG flick will make your family laugh like never before. Fan favorites Kevin Hart, Ludacris, and Lil Rel Howery have always outdone themselves in classics like Central Intelligence and Uncle Drew. Dashing Through the Snow has been out on Disney+ since November 17, 2023.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a funny classic that’s been a part of our childhoods since 2007. The franchise has completely switched towards animated features rather than live-action. Being a movie based on the bestselling book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Cabin Fever has the potential to be great. It will be available on Disney+ on December 8, 2023, for families and loved ones to watch.

Candy Cane Lane

Have you ever heard of a movie that’s both horror and comedy? In Candy Cane Lane, Eddie Murphy will help create merry (and scary) emotions for the holiday season. Arriving on December 1st, 2023, it’ll be streamed exclusively on Prime.

It’s A Wonderful Life

This heartfelt holiday picture is one of the best out there. While it is considerably old, it never fails to deliver a heartfelt message to those of us who feel down when the festive season rolls around. Additionally, the premise will certainly resonate with those looking for a reason to love the holidays all over again. If the ending doesn’t get you in the feels, I don’t know what will. It can be streamed on both Hulu and Amazon Prime.

Klaus

This Netflix-only indie film released in 2019 presents a wonderful spin on the origin of Santa Claus, and has quickly become a family favorite on Netflix. With the unique animation, incredible voice cast (Jason Schwartzman and J.K Simmons, wow!) and the music, this film will certainly make you appreciate the significance of Santa even more.

The Muppets Christmas Carol

This beloved holiday classic is just too good not to put here. Combining the uplifting story of A Christmas Carol with the uncontrolled comedy of the Muppets is an excellent film. With the beautiful performances by the live-action cast (Shout-out to Michael Caine as Scrooge!) and the hilarious hijinks from the Muppets, you will find no reason to hate this movie. It’s available on Disney + and Hulu.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

Do we even need to explain this one? You can find it on Apple TV.

And with that, these are the new and classic holiday movies to spend your break with. We feel that all of these movies fully represent all of the reasons that we love and treasure this festive season. We sincerely hope that one of these masterpieces manages to make you appreciate the holidays even more, as it did for us. Happy holidays!
