With the decade coming to a close, it is important to remember the most important events, more specifically, the defining sports moments. This is a compilation of the top 10 most memorable sports moments of the past decade. 

Our list is based on two basic principles: memorability and unpredictability. The first and most important aspect of any sports moment is memorability by the general majority. For instance, if you were to ask anyone about a certain moment on this list they would surely remember it, regardless of the sport they are a fan of. Unpredictability is the second factor, as it is much more memorable and exciting to see an underdog or unexpected team win or pull off an upset. Overall, this list compiles the top 10 sports moments of the decade.

6. Tiger Woods 

Tiger Woods had hit rock bottom in his fantastic golf career. Issues and scandals in his personal life and career-threatening back injuries plagued his reputation. Many thought his career would never be the same. 

But, after astounding play in the tournament, Tiger Woods proved everyone wrong on April 14, 2019 when he won the Masters, the most prestigious golf tournament in the world, for a fifth time.

Woods had an 11-year Major drought, after failing to win a single tournament in this time span. Woods had 14/1 odds to win The Masters going into the 2019 tournament, but he would prove the bookies wrong with his stellar play. This feat was much more than just outperforming the predictions, it was the culmination of one of the best comebacks in golf. Tiger Woods was once the biggest name in golf, and this title marked his return to his former glory. His incredible tee shot at hole No. 16 was nearly a hole-in-one, and it was his best shot of the tournament. He finished the tournament with an amazing 13 under par, and restored himself to the top of the golf world rankings. 

5. Nationals championship

After franchise player Bryce Harper left the Washington Nationals in free agency, the team had a 0.1% chance of winning the World Series according to Vegas. Going into the playoffs, bookies had them at 22/1 odds of winning the 2019 World Series. 

However, the Washington Nationals would go on to be only the seventh Wild Card team to win the World Series. The Nationals won the first two games, but then lost three straight games to the Astros. The team rallied in games six and seven because of stellar play from the whole team. This included outstanding clutch hits from Anthony Rendon and phenomenal pitching from the eventual World Series MVP, Stephen Strasburg. 

It was the first series where the road team won every game. This was the National’s first World Series title in team history, and the first time a team from Washington won since 1924.
